This Postgraduate Training School was organised following the interests of some young Albanian scholars to learn about Social Anthropology. The aim was to introduce this discipline in the Country and stimulate future development. The first part of the School focused on the tradition and methodological paradigm of Sociocultural Anthropology. The second part of the School focused on “Urban Anthropological Research”, addressing theoretical, methodological and ethical issues.
The School was attended by junior and senior scholars from: University of Tirana, Albanian Academy of Sciences, Catholic University “Zoja e Këshillit të Mirë” (Tirana), Municipality of Tirana, Albanian Ministries of Labour and of Transport, University of Prishtina (Kosovo), Kosovar Ministry of Education, University of the Peloponnese (Greece), University of Messina (Italy), University of Graz (Austria), University of Halle (Germany), Polish Academy of Sciences.

Paper-givers at this two-day major Conference included: the head of the Faculty of Economics (University of Rome), three professors of Economics (one also an industrialist, the second also director of the Istituto di Studi Economici e Sociali and consultant to a bank, the third also external assessor for some banks, internal assessor for a bank and legal consultant), two professors of medicine (one head of department) a medical doctor (Chief Consultant in a Naples hospital), the president of Confindustria for the Province of Salerno, the President of Confindustria for the Campania Region, the High Commanding Officer (a General) of the Carabinieri of the Regione Campania and his deputies, a professor of Law (also consultant to Consiglio Superiore della Magistratura, and Director General of a large Health Service Institution), two professors of Law and members of Consiglio Superiore della Magistratura, the Emeritus President of the Constitutional Court, four Chief Prosecutors (one also a former Assistant Professor of Law) responsible for different Southern Provinces, a Deputy Chief Prosecutor, a judge who is now the Legal Consultant to the President of the Republic, the Legal Representative of Italy and the EU in Albania and Legal Consultant to the Albanian Government, the News Editor of RAI, the Editor of a quality financial paper, and the editor of a national newspaper.
The Conference was widely publicised and reported in the media. Reports included several interviews given by the Conference participants.
The large public included the British Consul General, academics, lawyers, judges, MPs, high-ranking police officers, commanding officers of the Navy and the Army and the President of the Interparliamentary Commission, who also intervened alongside other members of the audience.
The Conference successfully achieved its objective of making the results received by law-making bodies.
Revised versions of the papers presented at the Conference have been published in a Special Issue of the journal Sviluppo Economico 2000: (4) 3: 105-254.
